As a web development company we deal with many different types of businesses, and not all come from a technological background. We know that it can at some times be hard to keep up with all of the terminology, and technical mumbo-jumbo that we some times use when communicating with our clients. With this blog I am seeking to educate those who are less than familiar with this business, and it's ins and outs.
Data Storage
All of our client's data is stored on our servers, and at any time your files may be recovered... This means that if something were to happen to a client's website whether it be something they did, we did, or even something a hacker did, we can restore the site to working condition with ease. The lesson to take away from this is: "Don't panic. It's Fixable."
Data Delivery
There are many different forms we are able to deliver the client's data to them...
1. Email the data
Emailing the client their data is a very convinient way to deliver the data for both parties...It is as simple as 3 clicks to send it, and another 3 clicks for the client to retrieve it.
2. Burn the data to a DVD
While this method is a little bit more of a hastle for all parties involved it is still a reliable method of transfering data, but again it is not ideal. The reason we prefer not to deliver the data in dvd format is that it takes extra time to transfer the files from our computers to your disk, and also it takes time to get the actual disk to the client.
3. Giving access to our servers
We are approached with this request quite often by our clients. The client will want the log in info to our secure data servers so that they may download their data straight from our servers. While this may seem like the best option it is not an option for us here at emunications because of the various security issues. All of our clients site files are stored together and thus we can not allow non-emunications employees access to these data servers because it would be a breach of our other client's trust.
These are a few of the data transfer processes that are available (with the exception of option #3), however, if one of these forms of transfer do not fit your needs the eMUNICATIONS team would be more than happy to work with you in order to find a solution that satisfies you.
Thanks for reading and there will be more to come regarding understanding the business of web development!
